STATEMENT OF NEED
VA Pittsburgh Podiatry is requesting a Smith & Nephew Versajet 2 wound debrider. Versajet is a hydro surgery wound debridement system used specifically to debride and cleanse soft tissue of a surgical site (acute, chronic wounds, and burns). This hydro system would be used in applications that require sharp debridement and pulsed lavage irrigation and is intended for an operating room environment.

The VersaJet II uses sterile saline solution, a saline bag, Versajet II disposable handpieces, waste evacuation tubing, and a water scalpel to excise and evacuate infected tissue. The scalpel travels tangentially over the soft tissue surface and creates a smooth wound bed maximizing dermal preservation. This tissue-preserving technique reduces time to closure which may reduce overall treatment costs. Also included with this system is a footswitch that allows the user to select power settings from 1 to 10 for proper debridement and disposable handpieces that are intended for single-use only and are discarded after use.
