Background/history of project
Metro is soliciting proposals for transportation planning software. This paper presents information regarding the modeling needs, the hardware configuration, the software users, and the evaluation proc-ess.
Modeling needs
Metro is responsible for the modeling needs of the Portland, Ore., metropolitan area. modeling applications include such projects as the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Plan (MTIP), corridor studies, LRT and bus transit analysis, tolling studies, emission and conformity analysis, and the linkage of the transport model with the household/employment allocation model.
The modeling network currently contains 1,260 zones and approximately 25,000 one-way links. (Note, however, that the zonal system will soon be expanded to approximately 2,000 zones.) The demand model is currently coded in the "R" programming language and is run on a centralized LINUX cluster. The network editing, assignments, and evaluation are done using a planning software package. This software is housed on the cluster, as well.
