The goal of this initiative is to provide research-based evidence to inform public policy about effective methods for preparing formerly incarcerated men for stable employment and reducing their likelihood of rearrest and reincarceration. To achieve this goal, the Foundation will provide substantial funding to selected programs in Midwest communities serving reentering male ex-offenders. It will also fully fund a random assignment evaluation, cost benefit analysis, and ethnographic study of these programs to assess the impact of transitional jobs programs on the ability of ex-offenders to find and keep unsubsidized employment and the likelihood of reincarceration.
