Provide Services for a Multi-Faceted Evaluation of a Community Based Program to Reduce Disproportionate Minority Contract with the Juvenile Justice System for the University of South Carolina.
The Childrens Law Center, School of Law, University of South Carolina, is seeking an
evaluator of its community based program to reduce the disproportionate contact of minority
children with the juvenile justice system in South Carolina. This project builds on a previous
three-year effort to promote awareness and understanding of DMC issues, and is expected to
produce tangible results. The broad goals of this project are to: (1) identify local programs and
initiatives that have demonstrated the ability or potential to address factors which contribute to
DMC and the overrepresentation of minority youth in detention; (2) develop existing programs
or support the creation of new programs and initiatives to focus on reducing DMC and the
unnecessary detention of non-violent minority youth; and (3) conduct training and offer technical
support and assistance to local communities addressing factors related to DMC.
