The Suwannee River Water Management District (District or SRWMD) is requesting proposals for pine seedling production to reforest approximately 1,500 acres during December 2011 through January 2012. The District's Land Management Program directs land management staff to manage and, if necessary, restore lands titled to the Governing Board; reforestation of pine lands with healthy, vigorous seedlings is conducive in accomplishing this goal.
The District is interested in planting bare root slash and longleaf pine and containerized longleaf pine. The purpose of planting is to reforest or augment existing areas with pine tree seedlings to meet the District's Desired Future Conditions (DFC).
District policies allow for this type of contract to be extended for two additional years without bidding. This contract renewal can occur only if the contractor's unit rates do not increase, the work is satisfactory, and funding is available. District staff anticipates reforesting approximately 1,500 acres per year during the next three years.
