Laundry Chemicals
The purpose of this RFP is to solicit bid proposals for Environmentally Preferable Biodegradable
Laundry Chemicals listed herein in accordance with the requirements of Executive Order (EO) #
76. Each of the organic ingredients within each formulation of the laundry chemicals must exhibit
ready biodegradability in accordance with OECD definition (Organization for Economic
Cooperation and Development Guidelines) and test methodology.
Additional requirements of Environmentally Preferable Laundry Chemicals would be as follows:
Natural biobased acids such as citric, acetic, formic or oxalic acids shall be used as the
neutralization aids in the souring line items in lieu of any mineral acids. Raw materials used in
the manufacture of Laundry Chemicals shall be easily too readily biodegradable and all
surfactants used in Laundry Chemicals should be listed on the U.S. EPA Design for the
Environment (DfE) Cleangredients list.
In addition to these requirements, environmentally preferable liquid laundry detergent must not
contain any harsh solvents, of any kind or carcinogenic compounds, such as Nitrilotriacetic acid
(NTA), or by-products of any ozone depleting chemicals.
In addition, successful contractors must install metered dispensing units for all users of
this contract, where applicable, at no additional cost. The bidder should include costs of
providing metered dispensing units in its bid price if the product requires a dispensing
system for correct use and performance results.
