Detroit-area literary and performing artists are invited to apply for the 2012 Kresge Artist Fellowships.

Funded by the Kresge Foundation and administered by the College for Creative Studies, the unrestricted twelve-month fellowships are designed to make it easier for artists to devote time and resources to whatever is necessary to deepen their art form, to experiment, and to advance their artistic career.

The 2012 fellowships will provide support for twenty-four artists living and working in metropolitan Detroit (Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties) whose commitment to innovation and artistic achievement in the literary or performing arts is evident in the quality of their work.

Emerging and established artists working in the following disciplines are eligible to apply:

Literary arts - Art criticism in all categories (including literary, performing, and visual), creative nonfiction, fiction, playwriting, poetry, and interdisciplinary work within these disciplines.

Performing arts - Choreography, dance, music (composers and performers in all genres- blues, classical, country, electronic, folk, gospel, hip-hop, jazz, rap, rock, etc.), performance art, spoken word, sound art, and interdisciplinary work within these disciplines.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must have been a current legal resident of the metro Detroit tri-county area for at least the past two years.

Each fellowship provides a $25,000 award and customized professional practice opportunities. Fellowship funding may cover any aspect of the artist's life, including informal study, exploration of new artistic directions, overhead costs, travel as it directly relates to the artistic career, living, and other expenses.

The Kresge Arts in Detroit staff will hold an information session for interested artists on December 3, 2011.

Complete program information, application procedures, an FAQ, and information session details are available at the Kresge Web site.
