The proposed project is designed to prepare businesses, transportation management organizations (TMOs, which assist employers with employee transportation), and public agencies in the Sacramento region to respond to travel disruption, particularly relating to the region's workforce, during and immediately after a major emergency-whether it is a devastating flood or earthquake, an interruption in the global oil supply, or some other major event.

The SACOG Rideshare Program, with its outreach partners the TMOs, are strategically positioned to become nodes of information for employers before, during, and after a major event and can offer proactive planning assistance. This project will consist of three tasks-(1) Conduct a study of the best practices and procedures in Transportation Demand Management (TDM) that allow business continuity during such an emergency situation, including telework and travel options other than driving alone; (2) Coordinate efforts with other emergency preparedness planning efforts conducted by local cities, counties, and transit operators, participating as the TDM stakeholder in those processes, and (3) Implement recommendations that are made in Task 1 for enhancing the current Rideshare program. These planning and coordinating activities will be documented in a report so that they can be immediately used by employers and serve as a model for other regions around the State.
