The Cintas Foundation's Cintas Fellowships program is designed to acknowledge creative accomplishments and encourage excellence in architecture, literature, music composition, and the visual arts. The foundation awards fellowships annually to creative artists of Cuban lineage who live outside Cuba.
For the 2011-12 competition, applications are invited from artists working in the fields of visual arts, music composition, and creative writing. Visual arts may include painting, sculpture, installation art, photography, film, and the media arts.
Eligibility is limited to artists of Cuban citizenship or direct descent (having a Cuban parent or grandparent).
The $10,000 fellowships are intended to cover a period of twelve consecutive months. Fellows are free to pursue the artistic activities they have indicated in their application. Fellowships are not awarded for academic study or research, or to performing artists. Fellowships are not awarded more than twice to the same person. Second awards are granted only to candidates demonstrating outstanding artistic development.
