The confocal laser scanning microscope system must meet the needs of several laboratory groups with a variety of research interests, the diverse applications for this confocal microscope system include but is not restricted to imaging fixed and live tissue culture cells, live imaging of developing zebrafish and Platynereis dumerilli embryos and larvae, and the imaging of fixed embryos and tissue. At least one need that must be met is the resolution and separation of individual neuronal cell bodies and axons within living zebrafish embryos and larvae. As most of the samples are whole embryos attention will also be paid to resolution of images scanned (in the z-axis) at depths equal to greater than 100 microns.
