The BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water, a national nonprofit organization supported by members of the Boat Owners Association of the United States, is accepting applications for its annual Grassroots Grants Program. This program provides funding for local projects that educate boaters on boating safety and clean boating topics.

The foundation seeks new and innovative ideas to reach local recreational boaters with safety and/or clean water messages. Information designed for boaters and delivered to boaters should be a key component of the project. Projects should be planned to get wide exposure in the local community and be replicated by others.

The Grassroots Grants Program is intended for small, local, volunteer-based groups and organizations. Applicants can include boating groups, clubs and associations, student groups as well as local nonprofit organizations, including local chapters of national organizations. Grants will not be awarded to government agencies, international organizations, for-profit businesses, or individuals.

Grants of up to $4,000 each will be awarded. A total of $50,000 in funding is available through this grant cycle.

This year, applicants are encouraged to upload photos and videos showcasing their proposed project ideas or anything else that will convey their vision. In the spring, the top grant proposals will be posted online and the boating public will be invited to vote for their favorites.
