The Public Arts Committee has released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to artists/design professionals or design teams for public seating along the new Bayside Trail. Artists will have until 3:00 p.m., Thursday, April 28th to submit qualifications.

The Bayside Trail connects the East Bayside and Bayside neighborhoods and is a key link connecting the City's most used trails and parks: the popular Back Cove Trail, the Eastern Promenade and Eastern Prom Trail, East End Beach, and Deering Oaks - and its urban core. In addition to providing a safe transportation and recreation corridor through the redeveloping neighborhoods of Bayside, this ribbon of green will provide a new gateway for Maine's largest city.

The Public Art Committee and Commissioning Panel will review the qualification submissions and select three (3) artists or design teams.

This call is open to any professional artist, landscape architect, architect, or design professional. Artists/designers should either have some demonstrated capability for constructing three-dimensional works of (functional) public art or team up with someone who does.

For more information, including submission requirements and project budget interested parties can visit the city's website at http://www.portlandplanning.org/baysidetrailartproject.asp or contact Alex Jaegerman (207) 874-8724 or AQJ@portlandmaine.gov

Qualifications can be submitted electronically at publicart@portlandmaine.gov or hard copied delivered, but all must be received at the 4th Floor, Public Art Program, in City Hall by 3:00 p.m., Thursday, April 28th, 2011. Late or facsimiled submittals shall not be accepted.

When:Thursday, April 28th, 2011
3:00 PM
Where: Portland Public Art Program, City Hall, 4th Floor 389 Congress Street, Portland, Maine 04101
