More than any other place on Earth, Asia is on the front lines of climate change and the resulting increase in natural disasters. Give2Asia and the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction believe that smart, contextual, community-based interventions performed by local partners are the most effective way to prepare for and mitigate damage from disasters, ultimately saving lives.

In partnership with IIRR, Give2Asia is inviting proposals from community-based nongovernmental organizations working to prepare for disasters and climate change in six South and Southeast Asian nations. One-year grants of up to $25,000 and two-year grants of up to $50,000 will be considered.

Examples of potential projects include but are not limited to early warning systems and evacuation planning; water management systems such as rainwater harvesting and gray water recycling to mitigate drought; environmental protection or restoration schemes that reduce the risk of landslides, flash floods, storms, or storm surges; community emergency response such as first aid training, search and rescue, and water safety; climate-resilient agriculture production approaches; and field schools to teach farmers and fishers how to use climate and weather information. Both new and ongoing programs will be considered. Priority will be given to projects that prepare for multiple hazards, leverage technology, include poverty reduction or economic development components, and include a focus on women and girls or other marginalized groups.

Applicant organizations must be registered in the country where they intend to work, be eligible to receive funding from foreign sources in that country, and be based in Bangladesh, India, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, or Vietnam.
