Teaching As Profession Career Pathway
The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) serves the educational needs of the dependents of military and civilian employees by providing PK-12 instruction to approximately 71,000 students in 163 brick-and-mortar schools. Student enrollment varies based primarily on deployment of military troops worldwide. In the Americas, DoDEA operates 51 schools located in seven states, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. In Europe and the Middle East, DoDEA operates 65 schools located in Germany, Italy, England, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Turkey and Bahrain. In the Pacific, DoDEA operates 47 schools located in Korea, Japan (mainland and Okinawa), and Guam. DoDEA's curriculum, resources, and student achievement scores on standardized assessments compare favorably to those of high-performing US public school systems. DoDEA's fully accredited Virtual High School has teaching hubs in each DoDEA region: US, Europe, and Pacific.
DoDEA has a requirement to provide students and teachers with up-to-date courseware for the Teaching as a Profession Career Pathway. DoDEA will offer three high school courses to students in grades 10-12. Education I (CTT 402) will be phased in at the following high schools: Ansbach, Fort Campbell, Fort Knox, Spangdahlem, Naples, Rota, Vicenza, Humphreys, Osan, Daegu, and DoDEA Virtual School for the 2019-2020 academic year. The remaining courses will be phased in during subsequent years. Additional high schools may offer the pathway in subsequent years.
