Statement of Need
Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) Probe Disinfector Unit

Statement of Need:
The Lebanon VA Medical Center Sterile Processing Service (SPS) has a need for a TEE Probe Disinfector Unit. The newly opened Surgical Center at the Lebanon VAMC will allow more procedures to be done in our facility; this will include an increased use of transesophageal echocardiography. Therefore, there is a need for a disinfecting unit that will perform high-level disinfection of these probes in an efficient and safe manner for the department and medical personnel performing the HLD task. An automated, enclosed unit for this disinfection will reduce the amount of stress and the potential for damage to the TEE probes as compared to those when performing manual reprocessing. Automated enclosed unit for HLD will also eliminate exposure to harmful fumes and vapors associated manual reprocessing.

Principle of Operation:
The unit would disinfect each TEE probe with a disinfectant and provide printed verification upon completion of successful disinfection cycle. The unit needs to be simple to use for any healthcare professional reprocessing a used TEE ultrasound probe.

Intended Use:
The intended use of the unit will be for high-level disinfection of TEE ultrasound probes of which will be performed in the Endoscopy Reprocessing Area of the new Lebanon VAMC Surgery Center by SPS Staff personnel.

"    Single-use high-level disinfectant to be used
"    Full diagnostic check of each disinfection cycle
"    No minimum effective concentration (MEC) testing necessary
"    120V Ac - UL Certified

Dimensions, size, and capacity:
"    A compact unit is desired as space is limited in reprocessing room
"    Approximate size that would work in the space provided: 24" W x 8" D x 44" H

Utility Specifications/Requirement: Depending on the item purchased, there will likely be water supply requirements (delivery pressure, flow rate, temperature of water supply) and will likely also have drain requirements (drain pipe and trap).
