DFID is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) for a service
provider (SP) to design and implement a market development programme.
The objective of the Market Assistance Programme (MAP) is to improve the
performance of key markets that are important for poor people in Kenya.
The assignment will involve encouraging and developing systemic change
in weak value chain performance. The SP is expected to identify key
market systems or sub-sectors where interventions will be implemented
which result in sustainable and significant job creation, incomes growth
and poverty reduction among both men and women. The programme and
approach will be supporting Goals 4 and 5 of Kenya Government Private
Sector Development Strategy by improving productivity, small and micro
enterprises, and entrepreneurship development. The SP will work to form
and support the 3 outputs, namely: the SP will work in market systems
agreed upon with DFID guided by growth potential, relevance to poor
people and sustainability; creation of at least 400 000 new jobs and 10 %
annual increase in incomes of 100 000 households at the end of MAP;
significant increase in perceptions and usage of a market approach. The
contract will run for 5 years with possibility of up to 2 years
extension. General management consultancy services.
