Numerous wineries in New York State have expressed an interest in improving their web sites and more effectively using them as a marketing tool. New York wineries currently have the ability to sell directly to consumers via the Internet within New Yorks borders. A Supreme Court decision in 2005 called for a level playing field with respect to wine sales in-state and out-of-state. A wine shipment bill was subsequently passed by the New York State Legislature to capitalize on Internet sales opportunities for New York wineries.
The Department is providing up to $1,000 in matching grant funds for New York State wineries. This is our second round of funding for the program. This funding can assist wineries in enhancing the appearance and functionality of their web sites including enabling the use of credit cards and creating translations into other languages. For the general promotion of the industry, wineries participating in the program will be required to link their sites to the Departments web site.
