Wicket Gate Bushing Replacement
70MW hydro turbines. The turbines were overhauled between 1999 and 2003 with self lubricating bushings. Recent inspections have indicated failure of some of the bushings and problems with failing seals that are designed to maintain cleanliness in the self lubricating bushings.
The City plans to install 3 different styles of self lubricating bushings within the four turbines described above. These materials will then be inspected periodically to determine their operating characteristic and to determine which self lubricating material provides the best service in the Boundary turbines application. It is the Engineering Department’s intent to set a future standard for greaseless bushings when the R&D testing is complete.
