The project involves full architectural and engineering services for the construction of new LEED-certified visitor center, staff office, collections storage, and archaeological laboratory facilities. The project may include existing structures, restoration and adaptation of the historic St. Lukes Church building and adaptation of the 1990s education building. The approach is to be determined during the planning phase of the project. The character of the new building must be architecturally appropriate for Old Cahawba, which is the archaeological site and ruins of Alabamas first capital. The site is adjacent to significant historic and natural landscapes including the Cahaba River and the Old Cahawba Prairie. The St. Lukes Church structure is of historic significance and will be restored to the highest standards of restoration in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Treatment of Historic Properties. The estimated construction cost for the project is $1,000,000.00 to $1,250,000.00.
