Visioning project
The Town invites qualified planners, architects, landscape architects, engineers and/or related consultants to submit a proposal for the assessment of a potential urban renewal project area, conduct of a public visioning process, and development of a community vision and action steps for development of the Gateway Corridor Area between the north end of downtown Amherst and the southeastern entrance to the campus of UMass/Amherst. It is the intention of the Amherst Redevelopment Authority and the Town of Amherst to redevelop this area as a mixed use commercial and residential corridor linking the downtown and the campus, and with appropriate buffering and transitions to surrounding residential neighborhoods. The urban renewal project analysis shall be of a level of detail sufficient to confirm eligibility of the project area for later submission to the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DCHD) for review and approval of an urban renewal plan for the area, and the Vision and Action Steps resulting from the public visioning process shall be of a level of completeness and detail suitable for presentation to and any necessary actions by Amherst Town Meeting.
