The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) intends to issue a delivery order under Contract N00019-14-C-0056 with Safran Electronics Canada, Inc., Peterborough, Ontario, Canada on an ‘other than full and open' competitive basis to address the retrofit hardware and firmware upgrade to the existing Landing Gear Control Unit (LGCU). As well as the Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) effort for Logistics Support Products required for retrofit implementation and operation of the LGCU hardware and firmware upgrade onto the V-22 Osprey. The LGCU capability is a uniquely qualified critical safety item that governs extending and retracting the V-22 landing gear for air worthiness and flight safety. This LGCU upgrade is a necessary safety modification as well as a reliability enhancement to prevent an inadvertent, unintended or "uncommanded" retraction/extension of the V-22 Landing Gear.

Safran is the sole developer, designer, and manufacturer with the intricate knowledge of the LGCU system utilized by the V-22. As such, Safran Electronics is the only known source that possesses the requisite knowledge and expertise required to perform this effort. Safran is the only responsible source capable of meeting the Government's requirements and it would be ineffective from a cost, schedule and performance perspective to have any source other than Safran Electronics Canada Inc. perform the hardware and firmware upgrade. For subcontracting opportunities please contact James Cunningham at (705)-743-6903 ext. 446.
