The University of Nebraska Lincoln (UNL) invites proposals to develop a campus wayfinding plan and a design document containing standards for a family of signs. The signs included in the proposal will be used to help visitors, students, faculty, staff, and guests to navigate the campus and find destinations easily and conveniently. Signs must be well-planned, seamlessly connected, aesthetically pleasing and create a positive first impression.
The main objective of this proposal is to develop a design document containing a standard set of sign designs and dimensions for the multiple signage needs of UNL. Given the overall costs of full implementation of all potential signs on university property, this plan will serve as a reference for new sign projects as they arise. The wayfinding and sign plan for UNL should identify designs, dimensions, specifications, drawings, and standards (suitable for bidding) for the following:
Proposed locations of maps, gateway identification, and directional signs
Incorporate existing standards for building identification and parking signage (see existing standards below)
Pedestrian orientation and directional maps, including freestanding directional maps, wall-mounted maps and/or stanchion campus maps
Interpretive Stanchions/plaques/markers for historical references, landmarks, notable campus facts, or definitional signage
Vehicular and pedestrian directional signage of multiple sizes for vehicular navigation from freeways , city streets and internal campus streets and pedestrian navigation internal to campus
Directional signs to museums and visitor oriented facilities
Gateway identification to denote major entrances, corners or edges of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campuses
Interior directory, room number and departmental signage standards.
