To more clearly describe the unique combination of science and engineering disciplines within our college, we have changed the name of our college from the Institute of Technology to College of Science and Engineering (COSE), effective July 1, 2010. This new name will help raise the national and international profile of our science and engineering programs among prospective students and faculty, business partners, and research-granting agencies. Our former name (with its acronym IT) had become increasingly problematic; few people outside the University had an understanding of the difference between the Institute of Technology and various research institutes at the University that do not have academic degree programs. Our hope is that a marketing firm will build a strategic marketing plan that introduces our new name and clearly articulates the vision and goals of the college. The marketing firm will determine positioning and key messaging that supports the new name, and launch a new brand.
