ABC's UP Skills for Work (UP) program is an employability skills program currently being delivered in community learning centres across Canada. The program consists of 9 learning modules (3 developed, 6 more scheduled over the next 2 years with three in each year) focusing on each of the 9 employability skills identified by Futureworx: Accountability, Motivation, Attitude, Presentation, Teamwork, Time Management, Adaptability, Stress Management and Confidence. The program includes both in-class workbooks for learners (approximate time per module: 1.5 hours) and online training resources for educators and program facilitators. The UP Skills for Work Workplace Activation (UPWA) program is an extension of the UP program, bringing the 3 current modules (Accountability, Motivation, and Attitude) into 15 workplaces across Canada to test workplace delivery of the program. In addition, the UPWA program will add a new module that connects key Essential Skills to Employability Skills. The resulting program will include 4 sessions/workshops in 15 workplaces across Canada.
The objectives include:
Improving learner's essential skills, with a focus on Working with Others.
Increasing confidence of learners to improve their workplace motivation, attitude and accountability.
Demonstrating Workplace Literacy and Essential Skills (WLES) training increases morale and employee communication.
