The primary role of the external audit is to report on the financial statements of the Companies and to carry out such examination of the statements and underlying records and control systems as is necessary to reach an opinion on the statements. Auditors in the framework will be required to provide audits of accounts under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and to understand and apply the adaptations of IFRS as described in the current Financial Reporting Manual (iFReM) for Governmental reporting bodies. Additionally, auditors will need to be prepared to include in the audit scope reporting on environmental sustainability performance (i.e., emissions and use of finite resources).
