Network Rail wishes to introduce a new generation of road rail plant for use on the UK mainline rail infrastructure. The new plant will seek to move away from modified construction equipment to a new design that is fit for the purposes it used as well as being safe, efficient and reliable. In this way the new machines will be rail-road plant rather than road-rail plant.
Having prepared an output specification, Network Rail is now looking for a partner or partners to take this from paper to reality. This contract relates to the detailed design, prototyping and testing of the new generation of equipment based.
The final specification will be issued as part of a subsequent Invitation to Tender round but a copy of the draft is available upon request.
Key deliverables of this contract will include the preparation and development of the design, construction and testing of prototype equipment and obtaining UK Rail Vehicle Acceptance for any future production. A further output will be to agree final production unit prices for the newly developed machines.
Following this activity it is envisaged that Network Rail may wish to purchase, or instruct their supply partners to purchase, the new generation of machines on an ongoing basis although this would be subject to a separate contractual arrangement. Although no volume guarantees can be provided at this time, there are approximately 1 000 old generation machines currently in operation.
All expressions of interest are welcomed from anywhere across the world.
Interested parties should provide the information requested in section III.2 below. This information will be used to select participants to receive the Invitation to Tender.
