The Avenue is a major corridor providing access to and from I-81 and serving as the primary entrance to the University. The University has considered future development alternatives that would require the closure of the Avenue to public vehicular traffic near the University. Given the need to address safety concerns due to heavy and moderately high speed vehicular traffic, the anticipated increase in student population, and the need to improve pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular access, the Organization will conduct a study to determine needs along this corridor. The purpose of this study is to determine the short and long-term traffic impacts associated with the closure of the Avenue to vehicular traffic and to provide for:
Alternate vehicular access locations to the University
Improvements necessary to address the impacts of the street closure
Improved pedestrian and bicycle attractiveness/viability to and thru the University
