The Art in Public Places Committee of the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo (ACGT) has convened a Design Review Board to acquire public artwork to honor, commemorate, and memorialize the work of the Toledo Department of Fire and Rescue for the noble services they provide for the community.
The new firefighters memorial effort is being launched to replace the existing memorial The Last Alarm which was created in 1963 to commemorate the June 10,1961 Anthony Wayne Trail Fire. The new memorial will serve to honor all who served and those who have died as a result of injuries and will not be specific to an individual historic event.
The mission of the Toledo Department of Fire and Rescue Operations is the protection of the community from fire and other emergencies through education, fire prevention code enforcement, emergency disaster planning, and the response of highly trained personnel.
Submitted proposals will be judged on a competitive basis from which three to five finalists will be selected for maquette development and presentation.
