The City of Alameda invites written proposals from qualified vendors for the
procurement of a Thin Client Public Access System for Alameda Free Library. The
system will be fully operational at all three library locations, by the end of October 2006.
This procurement is taking place against the background of a new central library being
built for the City of Alameda. The facility will open on November 2, 2006. Alameda Free
Library believes that thin clients provide a cost effective, and low maintenance solution
for public access to both internal and external digital resources such as library catalogs,
specialized databases and the Internet. The system will also improve public service
through a responsive time management and booking system for clients and a public
printing capability.
This Request for Proposals provides general information to vendors on bid requirements;
outlines the scope of the AFL project, and requires vendors to respond to library
requirements, and bid their products and services as appropriate. The Alameda Free
Library will select only one vendor who in turn will supply all equipment, software, and
services.
