Summary: The Texas Tech University System seeks to commission a professional artist(s) to create site-specific exterior sculpture(s) to be placed outside of the first building for the Research and Technology Park. Phase I of the Research and Technology Park is a new facility that will provide academic and business opportunities with the private sector. The project is a 41,000 square-foot, two-story building that includes a common space for research programs that promote entrepreneurialism and innovation, space for public-private partnerships, and an incubator/accelerator for new startup businesses.
Ideal submissions should be vertical and easily seen from a distance. Submitting artist(s) should consider lighting and other elements that will draw attention to the sculpture at various times throughout the day. Among relevant concepts to consider are creativity in collaboration, research in many different disciplines, connecting people, human innovation, interactivity, and educational components. Finalists will develop a design concept that reflects the standards and culture of Texas Tech specific to the Research and Technology Park. They will prepare presentation materials, drawings, a model, and related specifications in sufficient detail and in the format required to convey the design intent.
