The Texas Tech University System seeks to commission a professional artist to create a site-specific exterior sculpture(s) to be placed outside the Plant and Soil Science Building as a part of the Plant and Soil Science building addition, to be completed by June 2015. This project includes renovation to the current Plant and Soil Science building, as well as an addition to the existing building. The renovation to the Plant and Soil Science building includes an open plaza, a two-story addition that will include open labs, graduate student workspaces, an instructional lab and departmental offices. The existing building will have exterior enhancements that will help to blend the architecture as one contiguous design. There will also be a colonnade of arches on the north side of the building that will end at the building's tower entry. The open plaza will be a living lab of various plant species and research functions for professors and students. This is the desired location for the public art. Finalists will develop a design concept that reflects the standards and culture of Texas Tech specific to the Plant and Soil Sciences building. They will prepare presentation materials, drawings, a model, and related specifications in sufficient detail and in the format required to convey the design intent.
