Systems Department Enterprise Technology Enhancements
The purpose of this Segment of the project is to consolidate departmental server data and achieve economies of scale for future growth. By creating a Storage Area Network, the Authority will be able to centrally contain and administer critical data for access, backup, and data redundancy. In addition, the Authority will be able to utilize this platform to cost effectively accommodate storage needs well into the future.
The purpose of this Segment of the project is to retire existing departmental servers running NT domain services and Novell Directory Services, and migrate server data to a new virtualized domain and server infrastructure. By creating a new server hardware/software infrastructure comprised of both physical and virtual servers, the Authority will be able to centrally manage server assets, significantly reduce energy consumption in the data center, and provide a highly available environment for critical application servers. In addition, the Authority will be able to utilize this platform to cost effectively perform server upgrades well into the future.
The purpose of this Segment of the project is to provide an email and collaboration platform that will enable new features and capabilities that the current hosted email platform cannot accommodate. The Exchange 2007 Server will allow Blackberry and other smartphone users to connect wirelessly and seamlessly to the email system as well as provide improved web access, Outlook integration, better spam and virus protection, and a centralized message store. The Authority will be able to utilize collaboration software and custom developed applications via the services provided by Sharepoint Server. Through proper training and development, this tool has the potential to greatly improve efficiencies at the department level and for the organization as a whole.
