East Carolina University is seeking proposals for equipment, software integration and door access hardware, as described
in project scope and specifications, to determine an access control system to meet the Colleges requirements for current
student housing and future use in dining areas. This system proposal is being requested in an effort to increase the
safety in the residence halls, by the development of a system that allows for the disabling lost or stolen keys, and being
able to indentify when key holders accessed the building.
The decision to use a key fob instead of a card is to avoid any student confusion with the ECU one card system. This lock
system is separate from the current ECU one card system to allow for 24 hours response time for repairs and due to the
program challenges of lock system for student housing. The university has determined the best match for its current
needs and facilities is a system with AC power with battery backup, but wireless data connections to the door locations.
