The Department announces the availability of funds to support a Statewide Tobacco Dependence Treatment Initiative. Funds are intended to support statewide coordination of tobacco treatment services, the toll-free Maine Tobacco HelpLine (MTHL), as well as the training of tobacco cessation specialists and health professionals. (Maine uses the term HelpLine in place of quitline.) The purpose of this Request for Proposals (RFP) is to solicit applications to enhance and maintain the current statewide, coordinated system of tobacco dependence treatment services established to address the needs of Maine tobacco users. The overall goal is to maximize the reach of the MTHL to as many tobacco users as possible and for as many users as possible to successfully quit.
It is anticipated that one award will be awarded for the contract period, July 1, 2010-June 30, 2011 with anticipated contract renewals for three additional years. The contract start date is estimated and funding will be prorated on a monthly basis for any delay in start time.
