Solutions for Workplace Change is an open research grants competition. It looks for
research proposals that arise out of real workplace ohs needs and seeks to engage
workplace parties and partners in collaborative research activities. Priority is given
to projects with a clear workplace focus, with active partner involvement, and with
provisions for using research results to produce practical solutions.
The research program is overseen by an independent, multi-stakeholder Research
Advisory Council (RAC), composed of representatives of researchers, workers,
employers, health and safety associations, the Institute for Work & Health, the
Ministry of Labour, and the WSIB. The RAC reviews all grant applications and
makes funding recommendations to the WSIB Board of Directors.
Grants under the program are normally awarded to Ontario-based researchers.
However, out-of-province and multi-jurisdictional proposals may be considered
if their focus is of high priority for the RAC. The RAC will also consider research
proposals for co-funding with other granting agencies, occupational health and
safety institutes, or workers compensation agencies. Both out-of-province and
co-funded projects are subject to the same budgetary parameters and restrictions,
contractual agreements, and reporting obligations as other projects. They will
undergo the same RAC peer review process. All projects must demonstrate a
benefit to Ontario workplaces.
