Sign Inventory
Under the supervision of a Professional Engineer with traffic engineering experience,
have a registered Land Surveyor along with a Geographic Information Systems expert
provide mapping services to inventory existing and current road and highway signs
along all State Owned roadways for all of the Alaska DOT&PF's Central Region. Import
digital GPS data, and convert it into a Central Region base map of signs for use in
Oracle database software. Review base map and database setup configuration with
DOT&PF prior to field work. Field locate each sign using GPS instruments. DOT&PF will
provide iX104 tablets to collect data on. These tablets have been pre-programmed with
database fields to be collected. Capture multiple digital photos of each site. Record
other features of each sign installation for the database. Tabulate GPS location,
photographs, and other collected data. Map each sign and post location into the
database. Provide an engineering assessment of sign posts, sign sizes, sign types, and
retro-reflectivity readings using four engineering input fields. Provide a final electronic
file of the mapped database for final review and acceptance by DOT&PF.
