The purpose of the High Plains Gasification Advanced Technology Center (HPG‐ATC) is to advance
the technical understanding of the conversion of feedstocks, such as coal, by gasification into
synthesis gas (syngas) for use in power generation and for subsequent downstream conversion of
syngas into liquid fuels and chemicals. The University of Wyoming (UW) will use the HPG‐ATC to
expand its considerable energy related technology expertise. GE Energy has significant expertise in
gasification technology and will use the HPG‐ATC to further its gasification business. The HPG‐ATC is
a research & development facility, primarily engaged in testing of designs, feedstocks, components,
etc, rather than a commercial facility, and the frequency and duration of operation will therefore be
dictated by the testing schedules. This facility will not be used to produce any commercial product.
