In order to better understand the distribution and run timing of naturally produced LCR coho salmon, the Department of Fish and Wildlife is initiating a study designed to answer the following questions - When do unmarked, naturally produced coho salmon arrive at the lower River mouth and when do they exit the mainstem to enter various tributaries or pass Bonneville Dam? The study approach is to capture unmarked (coho near the River mouth, implant acoustic and Passive Integrative Transponder (PIT) tags, allow fish to recuperate in live boxes prior to release and finally monitor their movement and distribution over the season via fixed site receivers stationed throughout the lower mainstem and at tributary mouths.
