The goal of the Business Process Improvement (BPI) Project is to analyze and identify improvement opportunities that
will enable key business processes to be more efficient and to comply with UNC General Administrations accepted
practices and processes. The process changes should result in measureable improvements to service levels for the
universitys faculty, staff and sponsors. The improved processes should serve as a competitive differentiator for the
university and help to position it and the faculty for further growth in successfully acquiring grants.
To assist in this effort, the university seeks an external partner who has proven expertise and experience with grant
processes specific to Higher Education and a thorough understanding of organizational structure, controls and process
capability associated with the pre and post award activities for grants administration.
This scope of work entails conducting a comprehensive analysis (As-Is environment) of the processes associated with
grant administration and the development of recommendations for improvements to those processes (To-Be
environment), including changes to procedures, organizational structure, or use of technology. These recommendations
are to be presented to the Research Administration Project Business Process Team for review and feedback. That
feedback should be incorporated to further refine the recommendations so that a final version of recommendations can
be compiled and presented to the Project Executive Sponsor. At the universitys discretion, any or all of these
recommendations may be used in the development of a subsequent RFP for technology solutions.
