Rainbow Fishway Rehabilitation
DEP owns, operates and maintains the existing Fishway. Operation of the fishway is effected by the operation of the privately owned hydroelectric station. The DEP and FRPC are contractually obligated to coordinate operation of the fishway and hydroelectric station. The objective is to allow fish to migrate around the dam. The existing fishway no longer performs adequately and must be replaced. A previous project (BI-T-596) an alternatives analysis from a consulting engineer. That project provided conceptual plans for, and analysis of, three alternatives. The DEP selected the fishlift alternative as the preferred design. The object of this project is to develop contract documents suitable for construction of a fishlift. In doing so the A/E must consult with DEP, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and FRPC to ensure that the design meets appropriate fish passage standards and does not interfere with the operation of the hydroelectric station.
