In a clustered configuration Xen Servers must be able to use a shared storage using Fiber Channel,
iSCSI or NFS. This implementation will be utilizing iSCSI. ISCSI sends commands using regular
ethernet cables and NICS. This makes the solution cost effective and natively a low latency solution.
Each server requires a dedicated 1 Gigabit connection to a segregated VLAN just for storage. This
ensures that traffic destined for the iSCSI server is not interrupted or delayed, resulting in poor
performance. Each Xen server is a client who communicates to an iSCSI target. The target server
physically houses the hard disks. Since read and write performance is crucial a RAID 10 or a long
RAID5 is required. Write caching on the RAID card is particularly important as is using SAS drives
with a high spin rate.
