RFI: Automated License Plate Reader Pilot Project

The Department is issuing a Request for Information to gauge industry interest and information, and to receive feedback in regard to the plan to install automated license plate reader(ALPR) technology on a weigh station sorting ramp that will screen commercial vehicles to gain motor carrier credential information and safety information.
The project would involve the pilot installation of the most appropriate array of monitoring devices at the weigh station ramp and the configuration of a mobile unit that could be positioned at other locations. The purpose of the pilot is to determine the feasibility and potential effectiveness of ALPR screening to support a decision on expanding the pilot program to include other weigh stations in the state of Illinois.
