The Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the Unites States Senate (the Institute) shall dedicate itself to educating the general public, students, new senators, senate staff, and others in public service about the role and importance of the United States Senate. In addition, it will celebrate the long, illustrious career of Senator Edward M. Kennedy
and profile his legacy and accomplishments. With approximately 40,000 square feet of program area, the Institute will heighten awareness of the Senates functions by bringing the public inside the legislative process.
The Institute will be located on the University of Massachusetts Boston Campus. It is intended that the facility will be an energy efficient and environmentally sustainable facility that will obtain the highest practicable LEED Certification for New Construction with the assistance of the selected design team. The Project consists of full architectural, engineering, and construction administration services required to design and construct the new facility on the proposed site. The
selected architect will be required to provide programming and planning studies and to perform necessary site analysis to confirm the program and to determine whether the site can accommodate the full development of the program requirements.
