RECORDS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
The modules that are of most importance to the Department at this time
are an RMS for managing and storing Criminal History Information and a Field Based Reporting application. We
have been on an IBM PI Open platform with our CJIS system, which is consists of our RMS, along with a few
other modules, for the last 25 years. This old technology and platform have made it very difficult to share
information with other LEA’s. The Department has a strong desire to share information and collaborate with other
LEA’s nationally and internationally, as well as exploring the possibilities of sharing use of the application with
smaller LEA’s in the Southern Colorado area that might not otherwise be able to afford the type of technology that
can improve efficiency and data, increasing the possibility of solving crimes. We are looking for progressive
technologies that are allowing data sharing and data exchanges to take place seamlessly; however, in the midst
of that have the necessary elements for the data to be secure and for data quality assurance to be excellent along
with necessary functionality for business to be conducted efficiently. As we have sought after grant funding to
help us move off of our legacy systems, our goals have stated this philosophy, therefore, we are required by the
grant to improve our data entry efficiencies, reduce redundant data entry, and continually improve our data
sharing with other LEA’s and entities.
