Scope of Work
This contract requires slashing of deciduous shrubs for fuels reduction, wildlife habitat improvement, and conifer release, as well as related work on designated units or contract items in compliance with terms, specifications, and provisions listed or referenced herein. This includes furnishing labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, operating supplies, and incidentals, except those items listed as Government-furnished property.
Location
The work is located on the Lochsa Ranger District of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest. The work sites, access to the area, methods of work, sizes of units, and other information pertinent to each item are listed on Detailed Unit Information Charts and maps in the attachments.
Description of Work Area
The boundaries of each unit have not been designated on the ground. The boundaries are generally located along recognizable topographic (for example, ridgelines) or vegetation (for example, transition from shrub field to timber stand) features. The contractor will be expected to be aware of the approximate unit boundaries within which to conduct the required work. However, the Contractor will not be required to physically mark (for example, with flagging), the unit boundaries. The attached Detail Unit Maps and Aerial Maps show the location of each unit. Contractors will be provided additional large scale maps to assist in location of unit boundaries on the ground. The size (acres) of each unit has been determined using GIS mapping.
The Detailed Unit Information Chart indicates the percentage of each unit to be cut, based on aerial photograph interpretation. The contractor is only expected to cut shrubs on the percentage of each unit indicated. For example, Unit 6 contains 85 acres, and 90% of the area is estimated to contain shrubs to be cut; therefore, the Contractor would be required to cut shrubs on approximately 76 acres within the unit.
Project Access
Access to the general project area consists of high standard paved and gravel surface Forest roads that are passable by a standard two-wheel-drive pickup truck equipped for mountain driving during the normal operating season (approximately April 1 to November 1). Access may be seasonally limited (by snow) outside of the normal operating season.
Motorized Equipment. Use of motorized equipment other than hand-held implements such as power saws or brush cutters by the Contractor will not be permitted off designated roads and trails without approval of the Contracting Officer.
