The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Environmental Health, Division of Laboratory Sciences (DLS) intends to award a sole source firm-fixed price purchase order to the Hamilton Robotics. The address is 4970 Energy Way, Reno, NV 89502-4123. The purpose of this acquisition is to purchase the Hamilton LabElite Capper and Decapper.

The statutory authority for this sole source acquisition is in accordance with FAR Part 13.106-1(b)(1) - Brand Name required.

The NAICS Code for this procurement is 334516 (Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing). The size standard is 1000 employees.

The Government intends to purchase Hamilton LabElite I.D. Capper and LabElite Decapper needed by the Division of Laboratory Sciences (DLS). The Hamilton ID Capper and Decapper will be used to cap/decap and track sample IDs throughout the CDC's sample preparation process. The system uses a cap holder rack for storage of the caps and can be configured to work with different cap holder rack types of different heights and sizes and from different labware manufacturers. The system contains an onboard laser sensor that allows for real-time monitoring of the capping/decapping process permitting the system to identify capped versus uncapped tubes, labware that is different from the currently selected labware in the software, as well as any capping/decapping errors such as dropped caps not fully screwed onto tubs. The system uses 12 independent screwer motors for processing 96 format tube racks and 8 independent screwer motors for processing 48 format racks that can be swapped. Each individual screwer motor offers its own torque monitoring to ensure reliable and repeatable capping of the sample tubes to the same torque specification. The system has an automated turntable in the tube rack position which allows for automatic rotation of the tube rack into portrait or landscape orientations. The tubes can be capped and decapped in either orientation.

Only Hamilton Robotics makes the Hamilton LabElite I.D. Capper and LabElite Decapper. Hamilton Robotics specially makes these cappers and decappers upon demand to exact specifications. The Hamilton Decapper is the only decapper/capper automation device on the market which could be integrated into the Hamilton Vantage liquid handling unit currently utilized in the Division of Laboratory Sciences. This integration with Instinct V software is vital to process samples and continue tracking samples ID throughout the CDC's sample preparation process.
