Public Relations for Astraea Foundation Campaign
Fueling a global liberation movement for LGBTQI people
For over 35 years, Astraea Foundation has been the only philanthropic organization working exclusively to advance LGBTQI human rights globally, with a focus on lesbian and trans issues and people.
While we have made so much progress, this journey toward true, lived equality is arduous and we have a long way to go.
We continue to face massive discrimination that is codified in law and culture in the U.S. and around the world. Even in places that take bold steps forward, there is a powerful backlash where our LGBTQI communities face a growing epidemic of extreme safety threats, human rights violations, and murder. We watch our partners at grassroots LGBTQI organizations worldwide face isolation, persecution, and office robberies that put confidential member information in the hands of people wanting to do them harm. And while all LGBTQI people endure discrimination, those that face the worst isolation, hate and prejudice—while having the least access to financial resources to fight back—are LGBTQI youth, trans people, women, and people of color. These are the people most often ignored, silenced, or left behind because of a focus on majority populations in the gay community.
Over the course of the next three years, Astraea Foundation will double its resources dedicated to advancing LGBTQI freedom from persecution, violence and abuse; ensuring all LGBTQI people equal access to healthcare, dignified livelihoods, family protections and parental rights; and stimulating arts and cultural activism that improves the lives of LGBTQI around the world.
Astraea’s comprehensive three-year, $20 million campaign will increase support for LGBTQI organizations, philanthropy, and awareness around the world.
The campaign has several objectives:
investing in LGBTQI activists and organizations capable of driving lasting change and impact;
advocating for more philanthropic resources to invest in LGBTQI work; and
amplifying the voices of the LGBTQI movement to raise awareness, influence hearts and minds, and create more fertile ground for policy and practice change.
Most importantly, this campaign will plant the seeds that can germinate into justice, acceptance, and respect for LGBTQI people everywhere.
At the heart of this campaign, will be a joint Development and Communications effort that will help message to our constituents.
