The Texas Tech University System seeks to commission a professional artist to create a site-specific exterior sculpture(s) to be placed outside the new Gayle Grieve Hunt School of Nursing in El Paso, TX. Art in this area should help to entice those passing through to use this as a place of reflection and discussion. The art should help to "activate" the area by creating an element to draw people in and keep them seated in this area for studying, socializing, etc. Among relevant concepts to consider are the interdisciplinary nature of healthcare, the heritage of El Paso, and the phases of life. Artists should keep in mind that nursing is one equal part in the profession of healthcare and collaborates equally with the other parts as they care for future generations. Any concepts that may be considered polemic or political should be avoided. Artists should attempt to create a design that speaks to some universal concepts about the profession of nursing, as well as the local connection with the community of El Paso.
