The Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is entering into a contract which is designed to reduce infant mortality and preterm birth rates in Texas using evidence-based initiatives and local-led interventions. The project will include four training throughout the state in order to meet the goals of the Preconception Peer Educators (PPE) Training: 1) Reach the college-age population with targeted health messages emphasizing proception health and healthcare; 2) Train minority college students as peer educators; and 3) Arm the peer educators with materials, activities and exercises to train their peers in college and in the community at large.
