The purpose of this combined synopsis/solicitation is to have approximately 100** monitoring stations within the Pocket planning area surveyed for Northern Spotted Owl. The protocol requires six survey visits to each station in two consecutive years and within a two-year time frame (see Schedule of Items Table on page 1).

**The actual number and location of calling stations will be designed and located by the qualified contactor following the protocol referenced under Quality Assurance. Final locations will be reviewed by the Wildlife Biologist for the Hood River Ranger District prior to survey implementation.

Work will be completed within 1.2 miles of the boundaries of units proposed for treatment. A map and GIS layers will be provided to allow for proper location of units. Within the project area boundary, Hwy 35 and Forest Service Roads 4410 and 3550 will be the primary access to the survey units. Several of the owl calling points will need to be accessed by trail or cross country (off trail) (see map).
